The Pentecostal Problem and Solution in a
                   Preliminary Nutshell

NOTE:  The straw man that these famous, prosperous, and popular
evangelists have created is:  "You Pastors and other Christians must
be filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence thereof, speaking in
unknown tongues."

1.  If God had meant for this straw man statement above to be true:  (1)
He would have listed unknown tongues as one of the fruits of the Spirit
instead of only
"love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control...."
{notice how similar these
fruits of the Spirit from Paul in Galatians 5:22 are to the additions to
faith listed below from Peter in II Peter 1:5-7 and shown in read
.; and (2) both Peter in I and II Peter and Paul in Galatians would
have themselves through the moving of the Spirit of God, make the same
statement that creates a straw man--"You Pastors and other Christians
must be filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence thereof, speaking in
unknown tongues."; and (3) Peter and Paul, if it is really as important as
these increasingly popular evangelists claim, that is THE EVIDENCE of
"filled with the spirit", both these Apostles would have mentioned it.

2.  Those, like these famous evangelists who tend to knock all other
pastors, teachers, and Christians as second class are the same "sort"
that:  (1)  say we are the head and we don't need the rest of the body,
while at the same time letting one gift that they have, or maybe even two
or more, minimize the other gifts and those in the church body that have
them:  (2)  it is sorrowful to say, but we that are constant students of the
Bible and learners after Christ, are sadly reminded when we hear these
famous evangelists {while respectfully recognizing that their leader is one
of the greatest evangelists of our generation}, think of "lovers of self,
lovers of money, proud, and boasters"  (II Timothy 3:2a)--the most
prominent faults of "that sort" in the short doctrinal history of Christianity
in II Timothy.

NOTE:  To stay positive with self-control, brotherly kindness, and the
read manifestations of godliness and the knowledge of Jesus Christ,
faith, and the cross please read again the introductory word from
Peter below--

"Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and
of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that
pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who
called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us
exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you
may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption
that is in the world through lust.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence,
add to your faith
virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control
perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly
kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren
nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  For he who
lacks these things is short sighted, even to blindness, and has
forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and
election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble, for so
an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting
kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."  (II Peter 1:2-11)

Specifically on tongues today in churches, see especially I
Corinthians 12-14:  (1) there are known and unknown tongues and
Paul could speak both, same as known and unknown languages; (2)
the bottom line of the great chapter on how to use tongues in a
church has for a bottom line, "do not forbid to speak with tongues";
(2) tongues should not be considered as a litmus test of either the
godliness of a Christian, the dedication, or the power of the Holy
Spirit "upon" them and in their lives;  (3) unknown tongues are for
private devotionals between a man and God, not for public worship;
(4) 15 words of preaching and teaching in a known tongue like
English, Spanish, or French is worth more than 10,000 words in an
unknown tongue; (5) unknown languages are more a worshipful
language of heaven, not actually spoken in any nation of this earth;
(6) only some in the total church body have the gift to speak in
tongues, but they have other gifts higher on the totem pole than the
speaking in and interpretation of tongues; (7) the biggie on known
tongues is Acts 2, here in this one time historical event {never to be
duplicated} of the coming of the Holy Spirit on earth to take the place
of Jesus, as all of the approximately 150 present were filled with the
Holy Spirit and they spoke in the languages {tongues} of all those
Jews present there from all over the Roman world; and on the Bible
rankings of gifts, at the top is the gift of faith that every Christian has,
sort of like the head of the body that needs not to be ashamed as a
lesser member of the body.

There is in the Bible much more on the positive side of the work,
presence, and workings of God the Holy Spirit, including the
historical event of His withdrawal from earth of II Thessalonians, and
the detailed teachings of Jesus in John 14-17, especially for
disciples; and those, and the whole Bible will be considered in this
series of Bible studies.
