Beware of Gnosticism and Hedonism cesspool rabbit

NOTE:  Gnosticism and hedonism are at least as old as
Balaam, Balak, and Baal where Balaam, once a prophet of
God gave advice to King Balak to divert some of God's
people to ungodliness with the sexual worship of Baal.

From Wikipedia comes this definition of Hedonism:

"Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that pleasure is the
primary or most important intrinsic good.[1] In very simple terms, a
hedonist strives to maximize net pleasure (pleasure minus pain)."

Gnosticism is defined by Theopedia as:

"Gnosticism is a heresy which is made up of a diverse set of beliefs.
It is the teaching based on the idea of gnosis (a Koine Greek word
meaning "secret knowledge"), or knowledge of transcendence
arrived at by way of internal, intuitive means. While Gnosticism thus
relies on personal religious experience as its primary authority, early
"Christian" Gnostics did adopt their own versions of authoritative
Scriptures, such as those found at Nag Hammadi in Egypt."

What we know about Gnosticism comes from Irenaeus who studied
twenty of the most influential Gnostic writers and defined and
criticized their beliefs. Other early church fathers, such as Tertullian
and Origen also provide information regarding Gnostic beliefs. Lastly,
many Gnostic writings were discovered at the Nag Hammadi Library.
Nag Hammadi is a town in Upper Egypt near ancient Chenoboskion
and 13 codices were discovered about 1945."

For an excellent statement of their beliefs as a religion counter to the
Bible and Christianity, that article offers it, reference: .

Beware of those cesspool rabbit holes--

"Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which
minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so
do."  (I Timothy 1:4)

"Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the
concision. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in
the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in
the flesh." (Phillipians 3:2,3)

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world,
and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the
Godhead bodily."  (Colossians 2:8,9)

"But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. (I
Timothy 5:6

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors,
heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from
such turn away.  For of this sort are they which creep into
houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away
with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the
knowledge of the truth."  (II Timothy 3:1-7)

"To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing
all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts
and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one
another. (Titus 3:2,3)

"By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be
called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of
sin for a season;  Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches
than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the
recompense of the reward." (Hebrews 11:24-26)

Never forget the words from the Apostle Peter on
ungodliness and Balaam--

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations,
and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be
punished:  But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of
uncleanness, and despise government.  Presumptuous are they,
selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.  Whereas
angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing
accusation against them before the Lord.  But these, as natural
brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the
things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their
own corruption; And shall receive the reward of
unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day
time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with
their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full
of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable
souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices;
cursed children: Which have forsaken the right way, and are
gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who
loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his
iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the
madness of the prophet.  These are wells without water, clouds
that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is
reserved for ever.
For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure
through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those
that were clean escaped from them who live in error.  While they
promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of
corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he
brought in bondage.
For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through
the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are
again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse
with them than the beginning.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of
righteousness, than, after they have
known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto
But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The
dog is turned to his own vomit
again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the
mire."  (II Peter 2:9-22)

NOTE:  Look closely at these of gnosticism and hedonism,
noting their present similarities in thought and behavior to these
dogs, as Peter and the Word of God called them; some today
even claim to once have been Christians, "For if after they have
escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein,
and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the
"  And misery loves company!
